belvedere college,
it room
refurbishment, belvedere college, dublin
complete 2018
this project is part of phase 1 of the masterplan for belvedere college which also includes the dining hall and school entrance.
the it classroom was relocated to an existing room on campus, which was characterised by a low tiled ceiling, cutting across the top of arched windows facing great denmark street. the challenge of the new it room was to increase seating capacity and to create a layout where all student screens are visible from the teacher's desk while maintaining a view towards the projector screen.
the new room contains a centralised ceiling, with birch plywood fitted desks to the middle and around the perimeter. the full extent of the large windows are now visible, allowing light and air to the full width of the room. the installed furniture facilitates appropriate viewing angles and ensures efficient circulation. servicing is integrated into furniture. the material and colour palette is restrained.
