‘middleton park gate lodge’ artwork

2022 royal academy summer exhibition, london

complete 2022

the drawing is of a moment in a recently completed house in rural ireland, where the landscape, building form and interior space work together as a system. attempting to move closer to a holistic way of thinking about environment, opportunities are set-up, to benefit the inhabitants of the building and the environment which the building inhabits. a hopeful symbiosis of sorts.

the drawing is a printed & stretched canvas, with embroidery thread and pressed wildflower woven through.

in a normal architectural drawing, the external environment is absent (or at best abstracted) this drawing seeks to make present the elements which are part of our thinking when making architecture. the drawing should have a consistent field of visual texture, communicating the consistency of thought from the technical to the environmental.
